PRADOREY Roble Origen Wine

A red wine with
light barrel ageing
and amphora aeging

Twenty years ago, we revolutionized the way we make wines in the Ribera del Duero with the launch of a new aged reds category: the Oak category. Now we present Pradorey Origin 2018, a groundbreaking, pioneering wine from its inception that comes onto the market renewed and stronger than ever, having been innovatively aged in centuries-old earthenware jars and maintaining our current spirit of blending the old and the modern. Pradorey Origen is a coupage of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that has undergone different stages over the past two decades: in its first vintage, in 1997, it was characterized by its long ageing in oak barrels that gave it a woody touch and made it somewhat easier to drink than the area’s traditional vintage wines, but with a certain complexity. This continued until the year 2015, when we focused our attention on the terroir and reduced our barrel ageing to three months, giving way to the elegance and primacy of fruit over wood. And lastly, Origin 2018. Having reduced its ageing in oak barrels by another month and then rested it in earthenware jars, we achieved an earthy and mineral touch that conveys congeniality and complexity rather than power and rusticity. The result is a tasty, understated and very drinkable red, liked for its vibrancy, balance and consistency.
– The grapes were selected from 4 of the 10 vineyards owned by the winery: Los Robles, El Pino, Prado del Rey and Valdelayegua
– Start of harvest: Mid-September 2021
– 99% Tempranillo with a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
– Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures ranging from 25 °C to 28 °C with 10 days’ maceration.
– Micro-oxygenation after alcoholic fermentation
– Spontaneous malolactic fermentation with wild bacteria
– Aged for at least 3 months in European and American oak barrels
– 10% of the wine matures in century-old earthenware jars
– SIGHT: Purple red with a bluish rim
– NOSE: Fresh notes of red and dark berries, like blackberries and cherries, and balsamic notes of vanilla
– MOUTH: Balanced, with soft, pleasant tannins. A round, greasy wine. Interesting ensemble of spicy notes with a forest berry aftertaste
– Spicy and marinated cold cuts: chorizo, ham and Iberian pork loin
– Sautéed or grilled mushrooms
– Pizzas and meat patties
– Mild cheeses

Audaz y seductor.

Frutos rojos maduros y vainilla presentes. Perfecto con carnes
